UAE Medical Insurance: A Comprehensive Guide for 2025
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a significant step toward ensuring comprehensive healthcare for its residents by introducing a nationwide mandatory health insurance policy, effective January 1, 2025. This initiative now extends to all seven emirates, making healthcare more accessible and affordable - especially for private sector employees and domestic workers.

Overview of the New Policy

Coverage Expansion

The new mandate builds upon the existing health insurance systems in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, expanding coverage to Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. This ensures universal basic health coverage for all private sector workers and domestic helpers across the UAE.

Cost and Benefits

Starting at just AED 320 per year, the policy includes:

  • Coverage for chronic conditions from day one (no waiting period)
  • Employer - funded insurance, required for residency permit issuance or renewal

Co-payments and Coverage Limits

  • Inpatient care: 20% co-pay, capped at AED 500 per visit and AED 1,000 annually
  • Outpatient care: 25% co-pay, up to AED 100 per visit
  • Medications: 30% co-pay with an annual limit of AED 1,500
